چکیده
Introduction Porcine proliferative enteropathies (PPE, also known as ileitis) are a group of enteric diseases of swine characterized by hyperplasia of crypt enterocytes in the ileum and large intestine.1,2 The causative agent is Lawsonia intracellularis (LI), a Gram-negative obligate intracellular bacterium.1,2 The disease is widespread in pigs raised under various management systems and causes significant economic impact worldwide. 1,3,4,5 The acute form occurs principally in young adults 4-12 months of age and is characterized by hemorrhage into the distal ileum resulting in bloody diarrhea or sudden death.1 The chronic form occurs mainly in pigs between 6 and 20 weeks of age and is characterized by thickening of the distal ileum often accompanied by mucosal necrosis. Affected pigs may develop diarrhea and have decreased and variable rate of gain.1,2

Lincomycin-medicated feed for the control of porcine proliferative enteropathy (ileitis) in swine
Methods: A total of 312 commercial crossbred pigs at two sites were randomly assigned to receive lincomycin in feed at either 44 or 110 ppm, or no treatment. On 2 consecutive days, each pig was inoculated orally with Lawsonia intracellularis in the form of porcine intestinal mucosal homogenate. Animals were observed until clinical signs of disease were seen, then pigs assigned to treatment grou...

PURPOSE Porcine proliferative enteropathy (PPE) is known as one of the most important risk factors causing economic losses in swine industry worldwide. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of a commercial oral attenuated Lawsonia intracellularis vaccine (Enterisol Ileitis) against PPE under a commercial pig farm condition in Korea. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty two-day-old 672 pig...

Ileitis, also known as porcine proliferative enteropathy, is an enteric disease of the lower small intestine and occasionally large intestine that can decrease feed intake, reduce growth performance, and increase mortality in swine. The disease is caused by a gram negative microaerophil bacteria called Lawsonia intracellularis, an intracellular parasite of the enterocytes of the intestine (Dufr...
